Condominium in Kupchino

The architects faced a complex task of both meeting the quantity and quality requirements of the social procurement for a new type of accommodation and of creating a new environment for living in the city: an isolated low-storey residential complex of a type more commonly seen in the suburbs.

The architectural solution of the residential complex has been influenced by post-modernism. The architects faced a complex task of both meeting the quantity and quality requirements of the social procurement for a new type of accommodation and of creating a new environment for living in the city: an isolated low-storey residential complex of a type more commonly seen in the suburbs.

Two buildings extended lengthwise screen the complex from the outer world. They are comprised of joined three-storey cottages with built-in garages. The stone facing of the lower storey and the solid gates, arrow-hole-like windows of the bathrooms, extensive and continuous surfaces of redbrick walls create a “citadel” feeling. The façades conceal an inner street where the entrances to all the cottages are located, the street extending parallel to a nearby city main.

The central cross axis terminates with a 5-storey apartment building at one end and with the main entrance to the complex at the other. The court and inner street elevation points are half a storey higher than city streets and garage entrances. The cross-shaped building has a turret located above an asymmetrical stair enclosure.
